Overview
Đêm Việt Nam is the Vietnamese Student Association’s annual cultural showcase celebrating Vietnamese heritage through music, dance, storytelling, and community. As part of the design team, I helped develop the visual identity and promotional campaign for the 2025 production, “Dreams of the Dragon.”
My goal was to create a cohesive brand experience that captured the beauty, history, and imagination of Vietnamese culture while engaging audiences before, during, and after the performance.
The final identity was carried across digital campaigns, physical event materials, and the live show experience, contributing to an award-winning production recognized by UVSA Midwest.

The Challenge
Each year, Đêm Việt Nam requires a unique visual identity that represents the show’s theme while honoring Vietnamese cultural traditions. The challenge was creating a design system that felt:
Culturally meaningful while avoiding visual clichés
Modern and immersive for a college audience
Consistent across multiple platforms and deliverables
The branding needed to tell a story before attendees ever entered the theater — building excitement through social media while extending seamlessly into the physical event experience.
Theme Exploration: Dreams of the Dragon
The theme, “Dreams of the Dragon,” explored the connection between imagination, heritage, and Vietnamese identity.
I interpreted the theme through a dreamlike visual language inspired by:
✨ Stars and celestial elements — representing dreams, aspirations, and storytelling
🏮 Lanterns — symbolizing tradition, celebration, and cultural connection
🐉 The dragon motif — representing strength, heritage, and Vietnamese mythology
🌊 Blue ombré gradients — creating a sense of depth, movement, and a dreamlike atmosphere
The visual direction combined traditional Vietnamese and Asian-inspired motifs with a contemporary design style to create an identity that felt both nostalgic and modern.

Branding & Visual Identity Development
I translated the theme into a cohesive visual system through:
Color System
Developed a blue ombré palette to evoke:
Night skies
Dreams and imagination
A sense of elegance and mystery

Graphic Elements
Created a visual language incorporating:
Dragon illustrations
Stars and celestial textures
Lantern imagery
Traditional-inspired patterns
Typography & Layout
Balanced decorative elements with clean typography to ensure event information remained accessible while maintaining the magical feeling of the theme. I also had to find a font that was compatible with Vietnamese characters.
Digital Campaign Design
To build anticipation leading up to the show, I designed promotional content across social media platforms, including:
Theme Release Campaign
Introduced the “Dreams of the Dragon” concept through visuals that established the story, color palette, and atmosphere of the production.

Performer Showcases
Designed graphics highlighting performers and production teams while maintaining consistency with the overall brand identity.

Show Information & Announcements
Created informational graphics communicating:
Performance details
Ticket information
Event reminders
Show day logistics

Bingo Fundraiser Campaign
Designed promotional materials for fundraising initiatives, ensuring smaller campaigns remained visually connected to the larger Đêm Việt Nam brand. This fundraiser also allowed for board member engagement in participating in dares members paid for/ requested/
Physical Event Deliverables
To create a seamless transition from digital promotion to the in-person experience, I designed physical materials including:
Ticket Design
Created tickets that reflected the event’s identity while providing a memorable keepsake for attendees.

Show Pamphlet
Designed the event program to guide audiences through the performance while extending the “Dreams of the Dragon” storytelling experience.

Design Impact
Through the development of a unified visual identity, the campaign helped create a cohesive experience across:
Social media promotion
Audience communication
Event materials
Live production environment
The production was recognized as an award-winning cultural showcase at UVSA Midwest, highlighting the success of the team’s ability to celebrate Vietnamese culture through storytelling, performance, and design.

Reflection
Đêm Việt Nam taught me the importance of designing for experiences rather than individual assets. Every graphic, ticket, and printed piece served as part of a larger story that shaped how audiences connected with the event.
This project strengthened my ability to develop a brand identity from concept to execution while balancing cultural authenticity, audience engagement, and practical communication needs.
